He, She and the Wee 3: July 2012

I have been such a bad blogger lately that I completely forgot to post about my New York City trip! My best friend Jessica and I both adore New York so we decided to be adventurous and take a girls trip just the two of us. Oh my goodness, we had such a wonderful time! The first leg of our trip was probably our most crazy, spontaneous part when we reached our lay over in Washington only to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours before our flight got cancelled because of rain. Well we weren't going to sit in an airport all night and miss out on a whole day in NYC so us crazy girls rented a car and drove, yes I said drove, to Manhattan in the pouring rain! It was completely crazy but I am so glad we did it and also very thankful for the $13 GPS that the rental company supplied because I have no idea if we would have made it without it :). Anyway, once we made it to NYC around 1am, we checked in and fell asleep so we could be well rested for the rest of our trip. The best part about it just being us was the fact that both Jess and I have been to NYC before so we didn't do the normal "tourist" things. The first day was spent shopping on 5th Avenue and then headed over to SOHO for 50+ blocks of more shopping. We ended up in Little Italy (which by itself was awesome) and China Town before heading back to get dressed for "Wicked". Amazing show!! The 2nd day was our walking day. Our first stop was the World Trade Center and Battery Park area. We took the ferry to Ellis Island since we have both done the Statue of Liberty thing before. After we got back to Battery Park we walked the Brooklyn Bridge! We battled rain the whole morning/afternoon so by the time we got to the bridge, we were exhausted but we were glad to have experienced it. By the time we were done, it was time for dinner and we knew exactly where we wanted to go....Little Italy!!! I can't even begin to describe this place. Blocks of door to door Italian restaurants all with a salesman type waiter in front begging you to eat there. It was a tough choice but we chose one and it was incredible. That night we took a night tour of NYC and it was soooo cold!!! Fun but cold!! Our 3rd day we woke up to more rain so we chose to do something indoors for the morning. We had tickets to Madam Trousseau's Wax Museum. I had no idea what to expect but it was probably the most silly and hilarious thing we did. After that we got some authentic NY pizza before jumping on the subway on our way out to Coney Island to see the ocean. The amusement park was closed due to weather but we walked the pier, got our feet in the sand and enjoyed the view. Once we got back to Times Square we made our way to Central Park since neither one of us had ever been there surprisingly. We splurged and took a bicycle tour where we were told all about the history of the park and where certain movies were filmed. Seriously, one of the best things we did so we could see a good chunk of the park without having to walk anymore! I think the one "touristy" thing we did was go up to the 86th floor of Rockefeller Center to get a full view of the city. It was amazing how large and incredible the city is when viewed that high. That evening we headed back to our hotel to get all dressed up fancy for our big dinner. After dinner we decided to go back to Times Square because I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet and we ended up staying there until it closed at 1am. Tuesday we woke up, packed and made our way to the airport for the flight home. I don't think either of us were ready to go home but we missed our families terribly. Like I said, we had the best time! We have now decided to make these trips a yearly thing and next year is a girls cruise. I cannot wait Jess!! Here are a ton of pictures :).
